Obesity 2 a better you

My old way of Transport
Last year I realised I was over weight and needed to change. I was fed up of being called fat and chubby. I was carrying to much fat for my height and age. I would prefer to jump on a bus or get a lift in a car even if I was only going to the shop round the corner. But now I have changed I am now even walking to school thanks to walk on Wednesdays. Walk on Wednesdays is a group which encourages young children to walk to school on every Wednesday of each month and if you do you get a badge and sweets. There are even great prizes like ipods and laptops to be won . So check if your school is entering this years competition. I did no exercise I would make up excuses not to do PE at school. I would eat way too much for my age and snacks to me were a regular part of my day. I hated fruit and would not touch vegetables. If  there was a piece of vegetables on my plate I would say it was contaminated and make my mum scrape it off. I changed thanks to a exercise video I found on youtube. It was that or going to fat camp. I would like to thank my mum for making me realise I needed to changed. Obesity is way to common in Britain and if you think you are over weight check your BMI standing (healthy weight calculator) to see if you are perfect weight for your age. http://www.nhs.uk/Tools/Pages/Healthyweightcalculator.aspx?Tag=

Theese are all the badges I collected in last year's competition. See if you can beat meat in this years competition. Look at all the amazing design's that you can win if you walk to school on every Wednesdays of each month. See how many you can collect.

The more exercise we do to better our health will be later in life. Exercise burns of any unwanted fat that is store up in our bodies. the active minutes dont always have to be a sport and doesn't have to be all at the same time. If you want you can do 20 minutes 4 times a day. This way breaks up your active minutes. Each 20 minute exerise can be a different sport.

Food Technology

Now at most schools food technology has been added to the school timetable. It's a great chance to learn how to cook for later on in life. It's a fun lesson and a good way to learn. Each week we seem to be a cooking a wide range of food, cake one week and chicken curry the next. Food technology is a great way to learn about  Hygiene and food safety. We learn easy recipes and I have even surprised my mum by cooking dinner. Here is an easy recipe that I learnt when I first started the food courses. It is Fajita Fiesta it serves four and is a great dinner to surprise your family with . Go out and have Fun

I have just been to the new leisure centre in Eltham it was great fun. I found it new and morden and it has woken up the part of brain that was bored of sport. The swimming pool is exquisite and has a wave machine, it's brilliant and me and my mates have good fun. We are there every Saturday and we never get bored. The good thing is there are loads of over to sports to play. Badminton is a new sport added to my life thanks to staying healthy. Another sport I enjoy is football, I play for my local team and now I am able to last a full game. Football is fun and can just be a kick about with your mates. A good place to play fun football is goals socer centre's. http://www.goalsfootball.co.uk/ This is thewebsite for goals and it may be helpful.Goals is cheap and cheerful .

5ADAY keps the fat away

A good way to be a better you is changing the way you, eat. 5 aday adds a twist to your diet. 5 aday can be fun and interesting. With 5aday you can change for the better. Sometimes you can eat a piece a fruit without noticing you have. The way I started was to add a piece of fruit to your cerial. A nice flavour is to add berries or chopped bananas to your Weetabix or Cornflakes or my favourite Cheerios. However I am not you and there are a large range of fruits for you. I tried to make a fruit smoothie and it was a disaster. Everything was going well until I forgot to put the lid on the blender and the smoothie went everywhere LOL luckily I had time to clean it up before my parents got back.
So here is 5 fantastic tips for you.

  1. Fruit and vegetables taste delicious and there's so much variety to choose from.
  2. They're a good source of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C and potassium.
  3.   They're an excellent source of dietary fibre, which helps maintain a healthy you.
  4. Adding a piece of fruit to your lunch at school can help you. you know the saying "an apple a day keeps the doctor away.
  5.  To get the most benefit out of your 5 A DAY, your five portions should include a variety of fruit and vegetables. you can challenge your mates to find the most exotic fruit!!!.
